Spindrift Surfboards
homegrown and handcrafted - live like water

In an era of machine milled signature boards and one-size-fits-all overseas pop-outs, Spindrift is all about the personal connection between surfer and shaper.  All of the styles you’ll see listed on the Boards page are just starting points—platforms from which to build exactly the board to suit your surfing needs.  Don’t see what you have in mind?  Give me a call or drop me an email—I’ll work with you to design a board that matches your vision, not the other way around.

Every Spindrift surfboard is 100% hand shaped in either Pawleys Island, SC or at our new base of operations in Corpus Christi, TX.  Check out the latest Spindrift shapes on the rack at Surf the Earth  in Pawleys Island, SC, at the Board House in Port Aransas, TX, and (beginning in March of '08) at the new Covered Up Surf & Skate on Padre Island.

8.10.08 Update

In an effort to move to reduce the environmental footprint of our production, we are pleased to offer Homeblown Foam's Biofoam in lieu of traditional polyurethane blanks -- all of the performance of traditional PU foam with half the guilt.   Pictures of our first Biofoam boards with bamboo cloth inlays coming soon . . .

7.15.08

Our first batches of compsands are finished!  The single-fin egg (7'2) below has a bamboo veneer and carbon rails over an eps foam core.  Bamboo is a rapidly renewable natural resource with tremendous potential in surfboard manufacturing.  Bamboo veneers add strength and durability and reduce the quantities of other chemical and manufactured components used in the board building process.

The 3-fin bonzer (6'8), performance shortboard (5'10), and quad-fin fish (5'10) below are made with balsa skins and rails over eps.

3.28.08 Update

Spindrift Surfboards is really pleased to announce a new partnership with Jarrod Oldham of Oldham Composites, a founding member of the international cooperative know as www.compsand.com, which was recently featured in Drift Magazine.  'Compsand' is short for composite sandwich, an alternative mode of board construction that involves vacuum bagging wooden outer shells onto EPS foam cores to yield lighter, stronger, and livelier boards with amazing flex character and a timeless aesthetic.   Starting in early summer, we'll be offering Spindrift custom shapes made with our own hybrid composite technology.   Stay tuned for photos of our first prototypes, featuring bamboo veneers and carbon rails.

1.24.08 Update

2008 is off to the races, and we're fired up to be working with two dynamite shops in Corpus Christi.  Stop by the Board House in Port Aransas to check out our BH special single-fin eggs, perfect for those of you dreaming of those long points south of the border.  Beginning in March, you'll find our performance quads and new texXas OUTLAW series on the rack at the new Covered Up Surf & Skate.  Check out the Boards page and Gallery to see what we've been up to so far in 2008 . . .

8.1.07 Update

Spindrift Surfboards is excited to be working with Marimekko Miami to offer custom boards with designer fabric inlays.   Marimekko is a Finland-based design brand that offers an insane variety of fabric patterns and colors, which we're combining with our custom shapes to offer the next level of art and function.   Drop me an email if you're interested in incorporating a custom fabric inlay into your next board.

5.7.07 Update

We're up and running at our new base of operations in Corpus Christi.  Check out the gallery for shots of some of our first shapes on Third Coast, including a composite-sandwich construction quad fish made of EPS foam and hand-milled Ecuadorian balsa.

12.7.05 Update

The closure of the Clark Foam factory in CA may be the end of an era, but it is not the end of the custom hand-crafted surfboard.  Spindrift Surfboards will continue to offer a diversity of custom shapes with no lag in production.  In addition, beginning in January, 2006, we will offer custom eps/ epoxy surfboards in addition to boards in traditional materials.  Check out the gallery for pictures of a few of our latest epoxy shortboards.
